See Rock City Inc. has purchased the Chanticleer Inn from Theresa and Michael Turner, bringing the mountaintop bed and breakfast back under the ownership of its neighboring attraction.

Records in the Walker County, Georgia, assessor's office show the purchase price was $4.3 million.

"I am extremely excited about the purchase," Doug Chapin, the fourth-generation president and CEO of See Rock City Inc., said in an announcement of the acquisition. "Chanticleer is an incredibly special property and a real gem on Lookout Mountain."

The Chanticleer was built in 1927 and features 17 guest rooms, a cottage containing two suites, private patios, fireplaces, a pool and a Tesla charging station.

Meagan Jolley, senior manager of public relations and social media for See Rock City Inc., said that while "there may be minor updates" to the Chanticleer, there are "no current plans to do any major renovation."

"It's in a great state as it is, a beautiful property," Jolley said by e-mail. "The previous owners did a nice job maintaining the aesthetic charm as well as notable Southern hospitality."

In the news release about the purchase, Doug Chapin said his parents, Bill and Joan Chapin, bought an ownership stake in the Chanticleer in 2002. They sold a year later, Doug Chapin said, so as to focus on the family's "core business," See Rock City Inc.

"We are so excited to welcome Chanticleer back into our family of businesses," said Doug Chapin, who added that he bought See Rock City Inc. from his father last year. "I am thrilled about the opportunity to provide enhanced offerings to our guests on Lookout Mountain, with lodging adjacent to Rock City Gardens and Grandview (event center).

"This lets us continue delivering on our mission of creating memories worth repeating for our guests and partners (employees)," he added.
