Chattanooga Times Free Press honored in Green Eyeshade journalism awards

The Chattanooga Times Free Press was recognized for its work by the Society of Professional Journalists in its 2022 Green Eyeshade Awards.

The Times Free Press won eight awards for work done in 2022 in the contest among news organizations in 11 southeastern states.

First-place awards were for:

— Deadline reporting to Ellen Gerst for coverage of the Budgetel Inn eviction.

— Sports reporting to Stephen Hargis for a collection of work.

— Business reporting to Dave Flessner, Mike Pare and Mary Fortune for a collection of work.

— Magazine graphics by Matt McClane.

Second-place awards were for:

— Spot news photography by Robin Rudd for photos of the removal of a homeless camp.

— Magazine graphics by Matt McClane.

— Magazine cover by Matt McClane.

Third-place awards were for:

— Columns by Dana Shavin.

Since 1950, the Green Eyeshade Awards have honored the best journalism in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
