Walker County deputies shoot, kill man at Rossville home

Walker County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man Sunday while responding to reports of him threatening his sister at her Rossville, Georgia, home, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The man, who has not yet been identified, fired first at deputies after closing himself in a bedroom at the home on Bragg Circle, the release said. One deputy was shot and was set for surgery Monday morning for non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.

The man killed had an active warrant out of Whitfield County, according to the release.

The woman called police around 6 p.m. Sunday, reporting that her brother was threatening her and wasn’t letting her return to her home, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

After learning about the man’s warrant, deputies got permission from the woman to enter the home.

“Once inside the residence, suspect closed himself inside a bedroom, and as deputies entered the bedroom, suspect fired a gun at deputies and deputies returned fire,” the release said. “A Walker County Sheriff’s deputy was struck and the suspect is deceased.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the shooting, at the request of Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson, according to the release.
