The Hixson Council of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce is donating $5,000 to the Hixson High School Band Boosters to help purchase new instruments for the band.

Hixson High School suffered a loss of band uniforms and equipment in a flood last year, according to a news release. Those items were replaced, and the Hixson Council wanted to contribute to help pay for new instruments to complement the new uniforms.

"We are so delighted that the local chamber wanted to invest in our band," band director Torey Hart said in the release. "Our students will be excited to get the new instruments."

Officials with the Hixson Council said supporting the community and education always has been a priority.

Council members recently visited the high school and held their monthly meeting there. They toured the school's three Future Ready Institutes.
