A Soddy Daisy High School teacher suspended last year after being charged with aggravated assault is back at work after his case was dismissed.

Jon Stanford, 41, was reinstated Aug. 1, Hamilton County Schools spokesperson Steve Doremus said in an email this week.

Stanford was arrested at the high school in May on the assault charge.

That charge has since been dismissed, according to court records. It appears the case was also expunged, or wiped from the record, a court clerk said by phone.

When reached by email this week, Stanford said he didn’t think it was within his professional purview to comment on the case or its dismissal, and declined to talk by phone.

Stanford had been suspended pending investigation after being charged, Doremus said.

A deputy’s report alleged that Stanford had put his wife in a chokehold after he had been drinking for several hours. It was the first time he had put hands on her, she told deputies.

The report also alleged he took and tried to destroy his wife’s phone.
