Good Deed: Nancy Ward Chapter excels in community service

The Nancy Ward Chapter, NSDAR, provides community service throughout the year to honor American history with educational support for schools, conservation projects, preservation of landmarks, response to community aid requests and participation in events honoring veterans.

Among some of the projects chapter members support were the donation of several hundred pairs of socks for the homeless through the Red Bank United Methodist homeless program and donation of kits for women filled with toiletry items such as shampoos, travel size soaps, hand lotion, personal wipes, toothpaste, hair combs, elastics and other items that went to Metropolitan Ministries of Chattanooga, according to a news release.

Nancy Ward Chapter volunteers also participate in the annual naturalization ceremonies at the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building. Volunteers welcome new citizens and present them with copies of the American Creed and a flag lapel pin and provide and serve refreshments after the ceremonies.

School support includes providing supplies such as U.S. flags; award certificates for outstanding students; opportunities for scholarships; and Constitution Week promotion (Sept. 17-21), publicizing appreciation of our American heritage in schools and public places, according to the news release.
