Following data collection from a temporary traffic pattern on Frazier Avenue, Chattanooga is preparing a final recommendation for a permanent redesign of the roadway, city spokesperson Liam Collins said.

Following a fatal crash on Frazier in November that killed two pedestrians and injured another, the city permanently reduced the speed limit to 25 mph and temporarily changed the traffic pattern on the roadway from four lanes — two lanes either way — to one lane in each direction.

Cones were used to block off the center two lanes from traffic.

Data was collected to inform the city’s eventual configuration for the road. Collins said a public announcement will be made when the recommendation is complete.

In response to the temporary pattern, which was in place on the weekends in December and every day during the first part of January, the Northshore Collective, a group representing businesses on Frazier, called for keeping the four-lane pattern, advocating instead for raised crosswalks at some of the roadway’s intersections.
