EMERSON, Ga. — A season for the record books concluded for Gordon Lee volleyball Monday with the Lady Trojans claiming their third GHSA state runner-up trophy in the past five years.

For the first time since Sept. 10, Gordon Lee lost a match as Elite Scholars Academy of Jonesboro, Ga., would not be denied its first crown with a sweep in the Class A state match by the scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-13 at LakePoint Sports Complex.

The Lady Trojans, who entered play on a 19-game win streak, set a new program record with 41 wins (six losses) as their senior class of eight led an unforgettable journey.

“We had such a great team and everyone worked so well together,” said senior star Madilyn Bailey, who finished the season with 180 kills, 90 aces, 65 blocks and more than 250 digs. “We all love each other so much and we really wanted to win our school’s first state championship in volleyball. We worked so hard for it. We dreamed of winning state all season and we pushed ourselves as much as we could in games and practice.”

After losing in the 2020 and 2021 state finals to Pace Academy, Gordon Lee made a valiant return to state prominence after not qualifying for the state playoffs two seasons ago.
