Trump selections ‘weak,’ ‘laughable’

Give me a break. I am laughing at the latest Trump appointments of Rep. Matt Gaetz and RFK Jr. to attorney general and head of Health and Human Services, respectively. The only thing that could be any worse is if Marjorie Taylor Greene were appointed as head of any department! Being loyal to people is one thing, but loyalty to the integrity and future of the United States of America is an entirely another issue.

Unfortunately, most of the spineless Republican senators are too scared of reprisals by Trump. Stand up for the USA, not Trump! Way to go to those who are weak.

Senators, vote against nominees

Donald Trump has made three nominations in recent days that should inspire great concern from patriotic Americans of all political stripes. The nominee for secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has no experience running a large bureaucracy or as a high-level military official. Tulsi Gabbard is the nominee for director of National Intelligence. She is a former representative with no experience in intelligence. Attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz has little legal experience, although he is familiar with law enforcement due to several investigations into his conduct.

All have two things in common: loyalty to Donald Trump and a strong sense of grievance, coupled with a desire for revenge on those they believe have wronged them.

Most thinking people would agree that these traits are not desirable in public officials.

There will be 53 Republican senators in the 119th Congress who could vote to confirm Trump’s nominees. If we assume that the 47 Democratic senators will all vote against confirmation, then we only need four Republicans to remember their oaths of office and their patriotic duty to their country. Citizens must contact them by letter, email, and in person and express concerns over these nominees.

We need to be active, engaged and alert citizens in response.

Trump’s election endangers democracy

I am guessing that if I asked anyone in this country if they valued democracy, they would say yes. Yet over half of the electorate voted for a man who tried to violently overturn the last election.

Democracy doesn’t work if only one party accepts peaceful transfer of power. I am so worried about our democracy, NATO and the general world order now that our country will be ruled (not governed) by a would-be dictator.

Trump voters have “assured” me that checks and balances will keep Trump reined in. I have my doubts. I’m already seeing cracks. The red flags were there (among others, senior staff from his first administration who said he was unfit to be president). Yet a lot of people chose to ignore them and voted for him anyway.

Urging re-election of Dotley to Council

I strongly endorse the re-election of Ms. Dotley for Chattanooga City Council.

She was extremely effective in dealing with a significant noise issue at the construction site on Main Street for the Hyatt hotel. Her quick response and coordinated work with the general contractor and the city’s land development office have greatly remediated the issues I and other nearby residents have had with this project.

She has proven to us that she is a responsive and caring person for her district and fully deserves to be re-elected.
