Cal Thomas is wrong on data
I was struck by the degree of sycophantic asininity dispersed by Cal Thomas, and promulgated in print on the Free Press opinion page. He wrote an opinion piece full of distortion and outright false information so as to create amazement that it was allowed in our paper. Thomas was supposedly presenting data about non-detained immigrants with criminal convictions or charges of crimes that have been presented by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
He said ICE data “show that more than 600,000 migrants with criminal records are in American cities and towns,” and intimated they all came in during the Biden administration. The reality is that the 600,000 number reflects an ICE non-detained docket that spans a period of 40 years. Being non-detained by ICE does not identify these criminals as roaming about freely in the United States. The majority are behind bars somewhere, serving their sentences or being held by state and local authorities awaiting trial. Some who have served their sentence may still be in this country, awaiting deportation.
Thomas is so wrong in his presentation of fact, that his argument is rendered completely empty. I would like to think that TFP will do better in verifying facts before bestowing veracity by printing a columnist’s vacuous opinion piece.
