The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball team picked up a 103-46 win over NAIA Oakwood to improve to 5-5 on the season Tuesday at McKenzie Arena.
The Mocs next face Auburn Saturday in the second game of the Holiday Hoopsgiving Classic at 4:30 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Georgia and Cincinnati play in the first game at 2.
All 12 players that played scored on Tuesday, led by 20 points from junior guard Jordan Frison, who added five assists. Senior Brennan Watkins had five of the Mocs’ 21 3-pointers and added 18 points. The team shared the ball well (25 assists) and won a lot of hustle stats, including getting 23 offensive rebounds on 38 missed shots and scoring 34 second-chance points.
Here are three storylines from the win:
3-point shooting on target: Yeah, the Mocs can still shoot it and still will shoot it. Nine of the 11 players who attempted a 3-pointer made at least one Tuesday, with the 21 made 3s one off the school record of 22 made against Covenant in Nov. of 2022 and the 49 3-pointers attempted setting a new standard, topping the previous high of 44 set against Georgia State on Dec. 12, 2018 and tied in the National Invitation Tournament championship game against UC Irvine back in April. Along with Watkins’ five, Frison hit four and junior walk-on guard Ryan Lopez hit three, all in the final 7:44.
