Three Chattanooga Police Department officers are on paid leave in accordance with policy after a man who allegedly shot and wounded an officer near Highway 153 was arrested in Sequatchie County, the department said.
An officer and the accused shooter were injured after an exchange of gunfire during a response to reports of shots fired Sunday night, according to officials. The alleged gunman fled the scene in an unattended police vehicle, which the Tennessee Highway Patrol pursued until he crashed on Highway 111 in Sequatchie County.
The man was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment, officials said, and the wounded officer is in stable condition.

The Chattanooga Police Department directed questions about the alleged shooter to the lead agency, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
TBI only releases the names of individuals in these types of incidents if they die from injuries sustained from the event or are later charged by the agency, a spokesperson said. The state agency was asked to investigate at the request of Hamilton County District Attorney General Coty Wamp, who said more information will come in the coming weeks.
“This is a unique situation in which we cannot currently provide any more information regarding the suspect,” Wamp said by text.
