Steve Doremus, the spokesperson for Hamilton County Schools, has died.

Doremus, who died Monday, was hired by Superintendent Justin Robertson as the district’s communications officer in 2022. He became the board and public information officer in September.

“He has just done an amazing job, and Steve will be missed by all of his friends and peers at the Hamilton County Department of Education,” school board Chair Joe Smith, R-Hixson, said by phone.

Before joining the district, Doremus served as the executive director of the United Way of Sumner County. He’d also worked as a news editor and for Sumner County Schools.

Local 3 News reported that Doremus was 60.
