Brainerd High School boys’ basketball coach Levar Brown did not foresee the celebration that ensued after Tuesday’s 67-54 home victory over Bledsoe County.
Having been doused with water, a humble Brown was all smiles as he held a commemorative basketball with the No. 300 engraved on it for the number of wins he has reached in his time leading the Panthers.
Since taking over for the legendary Robert High, who won more than 1,000 games and three TSSAA state championships, Brown has also made a lasting impact with the program.
Brown has led the Panthers to nine seasons of at least 20 wins and has a 6-2 record in both region championship and substate games. Brainerd was the Class 2A state runner-up in the 2015-16 season, when the the Panthers posted an overall record of 32-6, including their 59-50 loss to Fulton in the state title game.
Brown’s Brainerd teams have an overall record of 300-132 (.694), and he has sent 18 athletes on to play college basketball since the start of his tenure with the 2012-13 campaign.
