EPB is asking customers to reduce electricity use Thursday and Friday morning after the Tennessee Valley Authority requested conservation efforts due to extremely cold temperatures, the utility company said in a news release.
Customers are encouraged to limit power consumption from 7-11 a.m. both Thursday and Friday to help maintain grid stability and manage energy costs.
EPB recommends the following energy-saving measures:
— Set thermostats to 65-68 degrees.
— Avoid using major appliances, such as dishwashers, clothes dryers and ovens, during peak hours.
— Unplug non-essential electronics and turn off lights when leaving a room.
— Commercial businesses should turn off lights and office equipment when not in use and lower thermostats outside business hours. The advisory does not suggest closing businesses or altering normal operations.
Customers can prepare by adjusting thermostats before bedtime, washing necessary clothes and dishes the night before, and turning off non-essential electronics and lights.
TVA last month hit a power demand record as below-freezing temps increased usage.
