Chattanooga motorists will encounter some road work on Wilcox Boulevard starting Monday, city officials said in a news release.
The city’s department of public works will begin the milling and paving process Monday for Wilcox Boulevard between Shallowford Road and Greenwood Road. Officials said the project will be multiphased. Milling is the process of grinding the top layer of asphalt pavement before resurfacing.
In phase 1, Monday through Friday, milling work will take place on Wilcox Boulevard between Shallowford Road and Tunnel Boulevard.

In phase 2, Jan. 13-17, milling on Wilcox Boulevard will take place between Tunnel Boulevard and Greenwood Road.
In phases 3 and 4, crews will pave each section, but the exact dates are to be determined due to weather conditions, officials said.
Milling will take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and no full closures will be required, officials said. However, the center turn lane on Wilcox Boulevard will be closed to be used as an active travel lane. Paving dates will be announced once average temperatures rise.
