Three internal candidates, each with 20 or more years of experience with the Chattanooga Fire Department, are finalists to replace retiring Fire Chief Philip Hyman, according to the Chattanooga City Council’s public safety chair.
Council member Chip Henderson of Lookout Valley told the Chattanooga Times Free Press he’s interviewed the finalists — Staff Capt. Damien Vinson, Fire Chief of Training William Andrews and Assistant Fire Chief Special Operations Terry Knowles — and he said he was impressed.
“All three have been great candidates, and I appreciate every one of them putting themselves forward for this position,” Henderson said Tuesday.
Six Fire Department employees applied to be Chattanooga’s next fire chief, and all the internal candidates participated in the interview process, according to information obtained through a public records request.
