Chattanooga’s Mill Town development was praised by a Nashville group for taking a forlorn former textile plant site and delivering a mix of housing without disrupting nearby neighborhoods.

During a tour Thursday of the 45-acre project near downtown, Jennifer Carlat, executive director of ULI Nashville, said the group likes to highlight “best use and leading-edge developments.”

“Mill Town represents that,” Carlat said in an interview. ULI Nashville examines city-building and best practices.

Mill Town was launched about four years ago on a tract that had held the old Standard-Coosa-Thatcher textile mill near East Main Street and Dodds Avenue.
