The top executives at Unum, the largest company headquartered in Chattanooga, received pay increases in 2025, according to a recent financial report. Pay for some of the executives came partly from a long-term incentive approved in 2020.
The compensation package for CEO Rick McKenney, the highest-paid executive based in Chattanooga, reached $19.4 million last year. Though McKenney’s pay was higher compared to 2024, it was not the highest his pay has reached.
The company’s operating income was lower than expected, the board of directors said in a letter to shareholders earlier this month. An annual incentive payout for McKenney was around $800,000 less than last year because the company underperformed.
Unum is the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in Chattanooga. The insurance company provides employer benefits like disability, life, accident and leave coverage.
