Voting bills threaten older, disabled voters

I have had it! Our right-wing legislature is trying to keep many of us from voting so that they will win again. They are discussing in committee how to change the way we register and our mail-in voting! They want to raise the age for applying for mail-in ballots from 60 to 65. Also, they want to have a mark on our licenses that says we are citizens.

How are they going to prove that we are who we say we are to vote by mail if we cannot get to the Election Commission? Many absentee voters are handicapped or do not have licenses, only a picture ID, or cannot get to the voting places, including the one at the Election Commission. Are you telling me these folks do not have the right to vote?

I am an intelligent person who has voted in every election since I was 21 years old. I know that in this country there is little or no election fraud. Please reach out to your representatives and tell them to quit making more problems! Then get out and vote against them this year!

Nation falling victim to a culture of lies

No facet of human life can survive a clever lie, a slick deception, a pretense of truth where there is none. When a narcissist is the source, a lie seems irresistible because its creator makes you feel he can be trusted. Possible calamity is neutralized by accepting predicted rewards as near “fact.” Believing lies are true is the evil of evils in human experience. Scott Peck’s “People of the Lie” argues that liars brilliantly hide what they are doing not only from others, but from themselves. They feel justified and guiltless. They abuse their power by imposing their will upon others by overt or covert means. They cannot identify with the “victim” or scapegoat. Humility is weakness, negotiation is cowardly and winning is everything.

We now suffer under a culture that elects and supports people devoted to lies. Criminal insurrectionists are pardoned, and defenders of the law are prosecuted. Freedom is being burned to the ground. “You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” said Jesus. Like him, the nation itself may be crucified before the truth is resurrected.

Where’s the tax cut I was promised?

I just completed my 2025 federal tax return, and I did not receive a big tax cut.

My AGI is under $100,000, and I am a single parent. If I file single, my rate is 12.59% in 2025, and it was 12.49% in 2024. If I file as head of household, my rate is 10.17%, and it was 10.19% in 2023. I feel betrayed by my government to benefit the rich!
