George Will (Free Press editorial page, 02/05) writes about our national debt approaching $39 trillion soon and possibly $40 trillion by the end of the year. Trillion! Most people have no idea what that means, as the lower and middle class think in terms of dollars, hundreds and perhaps thousands. So what is a trillion? Let’s play a game to see what you know.
How much time has passed after a million seconds has gone by? Think and guess. A little over 11 days. Were you close? Only days, not even two weeks. What about a billion? If you live another billion seconds you will be more than 31 years older. And a trillion? Over 31,000 years have passed. Let that sink in as our economy sinks further into national debt.
