A Dunlap man was indicted on several charges, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault, in connection with a shooting by police, according to a press release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

James Alvin Stockwell, 35, allegedly shot and wounded an officer near Highway 153 before fleeing in an unattended police vehicle the night of Dec. 28.

He was found and arrested the next morning after crashing the vehicle on Highway 111 in Sequatchie County. It was determined that Stockwell also had a gunshot wound. Both he and the officer were transported to local hospitals for treatment, according to the press release.

The Hamilton County grand jury returned indictments Monday on three counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of carjacking, one count of possession of a firearm with prior felony conviction and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Stockwell was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a $225,000 bond.
