An employee has sued an East Ridge company that provides home care services, alleging it violated federal law by failing to pay her and similar workers for overtime.
Crystal Patterson brought the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee on Tuesday as an individual and on behalf of other current and former employees of Caring Steps Solution, which is also facing a state investigation of wage practices.
Caring Steps employs caregivers to provide home-based assistance for people with disabilities and older adults. That care can include personal hygiene, housekeeping, food and groceries and medicine reminders, according to the Caring Steps website.
Patterson alleged the company violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by not paying workers for hours worked past 80 hours in a two-week pay period at time and a half. The lawsuit does not say whether Patterson is a current or former employee.
