Developers of the former Eureka Foundry site are selling parcels within the nearly nine-acre, mixed-use redevelopment located across from Finley Stadium on Chattanooga’s Southside.
“Our intent is, because it’s a decent-sized project, we can’t do it all ourselves so we’re going to sell some pieces,” John Hetzler of Riverside Development said.
Several groups have expressed interest in developing a hotel at the site, which in 2024 was rezoned from industrial to commercial mixed use with some parcels approved for 20 stories and others limited to eight.
Plans for the $100 million proposed project located just off of Highway 27 also include multifamily residences, retail and restaurants.
Hetzler and partner Chris Curtis, who own the Douglas Heights apartments on Martin Luther King Boulevard, plan to develop some of the multifamily housing components of the project, Hetzler said.
They also intend to repurpose and lease some of the old foundry buildings for commercial use.
Started in 1902, Eureka Foundry was operated in Chattanooga by the Hetzler family for four generations. The ductile and gray iron foundry business moved in 1980 to the former Ross-Meehan foundry site on the Southside, where it remained until its closure in 2023.
