A 10-year-old boy drowned in Big Soddy Creek Gulf.

Soddy-Daisy Police and Fire Departments responded to a 911 call at the swimming hole at 3:20 p.m. Monday. The man who called said a boy got trapped under the rocks in the creek, according to a press release from the Soddy-Daisy Police Department.

The Fire Department called in the Dallas Bay Fire Department’s swift water rescue team and dive team, and the boy’s body was recovered at 7:42 p.m., the press release said.

The boy’s name will not be released, Soddy-Daisy Police Chief Billy Petty said in a phone call, because he is a minor and out of respect for the family.

The water currents were moving fast from the large amount of rain that fell in Hamilton County over the past several days, according to a Facebook post by the Tri-State Mutual Aid Association. The association connects local emergency response departments for specialized rescues like the one seen on Memorial Day.
