A federal judge sentenced a 43-year-old Chattanooga man to 15 years on Thursday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Darien Houston had 23 felony convictions on his criminal record before pleading guilty to the most recent charge in January.

Chattanooga police searched Houston's home in May 2012 and found a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, a criminal violation due to his status as a felon.

Houston admitted he knew that the gun was in his home, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office release.
