A seven-run second inning propelled Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe’s baseball team to an 8-7 nonregion win Friday at Rome.
The Warriors (5-4), in splitting a pair of games against former Ringgold coach Brent Tucker’s Wolves this week, got the big inning started with a Tanner Mantooth sacrifice fly and quickly added two more runs on a wild pitch and a hit batter.
Peyton Tipton, who had two hits and two RBIs, added an RBI single, as did Chris Kelley. After a bases-loaded walk to Dylan Blankenship, Gabe Helton capped the inning with a two-run single.
Rome scored twice in the sixth to cut its deficit to a run, but LFO’s Will Carroll saved the game with a perfect seventh inning.
Trion 2-1, Bowdon 3-0: The Bulldogs evened their record at 3-3 and won two of three against a Region 6-A public foe with the doubleheader split. Kade Smith got out of a two-on, two-out jam with a strikeout to end game two. Clay Chesley allowed five hits and struck out 10 in six innings to get the win for Trion, and Brantley Willbanks drove in the game’s lone run.
