One Summerville, Ga., man is dead and another injured after they broke into a home in Henagar, Ala., on Friday and were stabbed by the homeowner, the DeKalb County, Ala., sheriff says.
On the same day, Sheriff Jimmy Harris said, a man and a juvenile were flown to hospitals for treatment after being ambushed and shot in the Kilpatrick community.
In the first incident, Harris said, Cody Earl Seegar, 29, and Anthony Tracy Shaw, 48, both of Summerville, broke into a home on County Road 1495 and attacked the owner.
The homeowner, whose name was not released, stabbed each of the attackers once. Seegar died at the scene and Shaw was taken to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga.
The sheriff said the assault followed a family dispute earlier in the day and that the investigation is ongoing.
The other attack happened on County Road 9055 in the Kilpatrick community, Harris said. Witnesses said a Hispanic man in his 20s and a juvenile were in a van when a dark-colored SUV pulled up beside the vehicle and gunfire erupted.
The victims were taken by personal vehicle to Marshall Medical South in Boaz, Ala. One was flown to a Huntsville hospital and the other to a hospital in Birmingham.
Harris said the victims’ names are not being released at this time and asked anyone with information on the crime to call 256-845-3801.
