Several heroes are featured in this issue, including those smiling back from Chatter’s 12-page special section inside featuring the March of Dimes. The spread casts a spotlight on the venerable organization and its popular annual fundraiser this month: the Gourmet Gala. If you can only attend one black tie event this month, the new Gourmet Games version featuring several local heroes is one you won’t want to miss!
You’ll also find enlightening profiles about giving individuals like Art Holekamp who along with Jane Kaylor makes the Ronald McDonald House so successful and important to the community. We think you’ll also enjoy Amber Nagle’s piece about volunteer Janet Suber and her gifted dog, Spencer, a four-legged therapist who helps provide comfort to Chattanooga’s weak and frail.
Inside, there is an exclusive interview with Chattanooga’s popular new U.S. Attorney for the district of Eastern Tennessee, Bill Killian. To celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re paying tribute to all of those heroes who this month will toil in the kitchen attempting to cook the perfect turkey. Thanks to research that contributing editor Merrell McGinness characterizes as “fun but unscientific,” we’re publishing her “top five list” featuring crazy ways to prepare your holiday bird! Recipes are rated for beginners to experts; just choose one, then visit chatterchattanooga.com.
Finally, we’ve included a sequel to our August issue encouraging everyone to “shop local” this holiday season. Recently, a friend told me she had gone on a shopping spree and spent every dollar here in Chattanooga, as opposed to Atlanta. I’m proud of her and plan to buy her a fun Christmas gift at one of the shops advertising in this month’s Shop Local section. Remember, local merchants are important to all of us since dollars spent with local businesses stay here, creating a healthier economy and more jobs.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and thank you for spending time with Chatter again this month!
