ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has assembled an Ebola Response Team to prepare the state for any local occurrences of the virus.
Deal says the group of 13 will meet for the first time this week but didn’t have details on Monday afternoon. The team includes health, military and emergency management officials and representatives from health care facilities, including Atlanta’s Emory University where two people have been treated and released and two patients are being treated for the virus.
State health officer Brenda Fitzgerald says the team’s priorities include cataloguing the protective equipment available to health care workers at all hospitals. Fitzgerald says she is confident any hospital can isolate people suspected to have the virus, and six hospitals are training to provide care for any confirmed patients.
