NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Six-thousand Tennessee students are competing in a history contest.

Students in grades 6 through 12 will present history-themed projects in a variety of formats including museum-style exhibits, papers, Web sites, documentaries and live performances. Judges are university professors, high school teachers, museum curators, archivists and other public historians.

District competition is being held through March 1 in Memphis, Murfreesboro, Knoxville and Chattanooga.

Finals are set for Nashville April 17. Winners in the statewide competition advance to the National History Day finals in College Park, Md., in June.

Nationwide, more than half a million students are expected to participate.
