MOBILE, Ala. – Emergency managers from Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama will gather in Mobile this week for the 2010 Gulf States Hurricane Conference.
For the past few years officials from each state have participated in the conference to talk about common issues, such as evacuation, shelters and volunteers.
The Sun Herald reports the conference opens Wednesday with an overview of the season by Bill Read, director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Emergency managers from each state will talk about their plans for this hurricane season. The conference runs through Friday.
Mike Womack, director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, said it’s important for the three states to work together because tropical storms and hurricanes often affect all of them.
