CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Like Dorothy’s red shoes in “The Wizard of Oz,” the mission of court appointed special advocates is to help children caught up in the court system find their way home.

That is why the fundraising gala coming Saturday is called the Red Shoe Gala, said Suzanne Wisdom, director of CASA of Bradley County.

Advocates are trained volunteers who look after the interests of children who find themselves in the legal system through no fault of their own.

“They advocate for the children who come into the court system due to abuse or neglect,” Wisdom said.
