Work to improve the intersection of Dayton Boulevard and Morrison Springs Road in Red Bank is underway, according to a news release.
The work is the first in a five-phase project that city officials said will improve traffic control signals, pedestrian crosswalks and signalization.
Public Works Director Gregory Tate said in a phone call that work at Dayton Boulevard and Morrison Springs Road will include upgrading existing traffic signals and improving the pedestrian crosswalks with new lights on their signals, and the removal/replacement of an island in the intersection.
“The island was good back in its day, but now, according to new Tennessee Department of Transportation standards, it can be made better,” he said.
Tate added that work is being done primarily during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the goal is to finish before the new school year begins as city officials anticipate it to have the biggest impact on school traffic in the area.
