No. 10 steakhouse is set to open just off Rossville Avenue in early winter, and co-owner Adam Johnston said it will feature steaks, hamburgers, salads and chicken dishes. Johnston hopes it will become a regular stop for people living on the Southside, as well as in the developing Ridgedale, Highland Park and East Main Street parts of town.

“We want to be a part of the community, which is definitely developing,” he said, mentioning the newly opened OddStory Brewing Co. nearby on Central Avenue.

Johnston and co-owner Vern Kennedy met several years ago in Atlanta where they partnered to grow hydroponic lettuce. In 2017, the two moved to Massachusetts to renovate two restaurants Kennedy owned, and one of them eventually became No. 10 in Great Barrington. The name comes from the restaurant’s street address, and residents there were drawn to its steaks, small plates and large selection of whiskeys.

Kennedy is from Pennsylvania, and Johnston is originally from Indiana. About a year ago, the two decided they wanted to get back to the South and began looking at either Atlanta or Nashville as possible new locations. With the help of some of his motorcycle-riding friends, Johnston found the 120-year-old Burnside building on Myrtle Street near the corner of Central and Rossville avenues.
