Hamilton County commissioners authorized an almost $96 million bid for the construction of a new Tyner middle-high School on Wednesday, a project that has come in about 20% higher than the budgeted estimate.
The $96 million Christman Co. bid was considered the lowest and best option out of the three general contractors vying for the project. The two other bids from P&C Construction and Tri-Con Construction came in at approximately $99 million and $108.8 million, respectively.
The project will be funded through previously budgeted bond proceeds and pandemic relief dollars received by Hamilton County Schools, according to a resolution commissioners approved Wednesday.
“We’ve waited a long time for this,” Commissioner Greg Beck, D-North Brainerd, told members of the panel Wednesday, “and commissioners, what a wonderful Christmas present you have given to those champions out at Tyner.”
The Tyner High School Rams won the state Class 2A high school football title earlier this month at the BlueCross Bowl.
