Sean Williams, the Johnson City, Tennessee, man at the center of widening allegations that local police failed to investigate multiple sexual assault allegations against him over four years, has escaped custody.

A multiagency manhunt is underway for Williams, who was due for an appearance in federal court Wednesday but escaped by kicking the back window out of a transport vehicle, according to court records.

U.S. Marshal David Jolley of the Eastern District of Tennessee told WJHL-TV that he “has a lot of questions” about how Williams made the escape and pledged to seek charges against anyone who aided him. Multiple agencies in Northeast Tennessee have joined the search.

In a post on social media Friday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a reward of up to $7,500 is being offered for information leading to Williams’ arrest and urged tipsters to call 800-TBI-FIND. Williams has been added to TBI’s most wanted list.
