The Signal Mountain volleyball team received quite the postseason reinforcement Tuesday night.

Boosting their hopes of defending their TSSAA Class 2A state championship, the Lady Eagles landed a major boost when star senior outside hitter Carlee Lowry returned to play after having surgery for a knee injury suffered earlier in the year.

Lowry was superb in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Anderson County in the first round of the state tournament at Siegel High School as she had a match-high 21 kills and 30 digs as Signal Mountain (24-13) won by set scores of 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-17.

Junior Becca Rogers had 18 kills, 20 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces for the winners, while senior Elle Ramsey fueled the attack with 46 assists while adding six aces. Sydney Smith provided four aces, while Emma Schlegler had 15 digs in the victory.

Signal Mountain will take on Dyer County (35-7) in Wednesday’s winner’s bracket quarterfinals at 1 p.m. ET.
