PHILADELPHIA — The rivalry between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies is filled with great moments.
They run the gamut from Philadelphia ace Jim Bunning’s perfect game on Father’s Day 1964 to New York’s epic collapse in the 2007 National League East Division title race, to each team scoring 20-plus runs against the other and all the way to a London series this season.
Still, one thing is missing: The Mets and the Phillies have never faced each other in the playoffs
Their 1,081 all-time meetings since the Mets’ debut season in 1962 have yielded all kinds of moments for the highlight reel, none bigger than the start of their best-of-five NL Division Series on Saturday in Philadelphia. First pitch is set for 4:08 p.m. at Citzens Bank Park.
“It’s a tricky lineup, and they’re hot right now,” Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler, who will start the opener, said of the Mets. “They’re playing good baseball.”
