One person was taken to the hospital with burns after a car caught fire while parked at an EPB building early Sunday.
About 2:25 a.m., a unit from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire call at 830 Eastgate Loop, according to a news release. Upon arrival, the crew found the car fully engulfed. It was parked in the drive-through of an EPB payment building, and flames were spreading into the structure.
The crew immediately upgraded the fire to a commercial call, according to the release, and more units were sent to help extinguish the flames.
Chattanooga police told fire department officials that when police officers arrived on the scene, before the first fire crew, they found that someone had been sleeping in the car and using some type of propane heater in the vehicle, the release said. The occupant was burned in the fire and taken to a hospital by the Hamilton County Emergency Management Service.
