CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — It took nearly seven hours, but the extra effort was worth it for the Gordon Lee Trojans, who swept Macon’s ACE Charter by scores of 7-1 and 7-2 in the second round of the GHSA Class A Division I baseball playoffs.

The Trojans were the only area team to advance from any of the best-of-three series that started Thursday.

Heritage was swept at North Hall and Northwest Whitfield lost two at home against Cherokee Bluff in Class AAA, Ringgold was eliminated via sweep at top-seeded Morgan County in Class AA, and Christian Heritage lost a pair of games in the private-school bracket at Prince Avenue Christian, 12-4 and 10-2 in Athens.

Midafternoon showers delayed the start of the ACE-Gordon Lee doubleheader by 20 minutes, and a stronger storm early in the second game caused a delay that lasted nearly an hour and a half. Gordon Lee (33-2), the top-seeded team in the Class A Division I bracket, took early leads in both games against No. 17 seed ACE after losing game one in the first-round series with Brantley County last week and trailing in game two before rallying.

Trojans ace Aiden Goodwin allowed two baserunners in the first inning but struck out eight of the next nine batters on his way to a five-hit, 11-strikeout complete game in the opener.
