EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — FIFA cut standard ticket prices for next Tuesday’s Club World Cup semifinal between England’s Chelsea and Brazil’s Fluminense at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford to $13.40 from $473.90 earlier this week.
FIFA has used dynamic pricing for the 63-game tournament between professional soccer teams, which expanded to 32 teams this year after previously having no more than a dozen clubs in the field and typically only seven. The monthlong event is approaching the finish line, with just four teams remaining after quarterfinals were held Friday and Saturday.
Standard ticket prices for next Wednesday’s semifinal between European champion Paris Saint-Germain of France and Spain’s Real Madrid start at $199.60. Both semifinals and the July 13 title game will take place at MetLife Stadium, the New Jersey home of the NFL’s two New York teams, the Giants and the Jets.
FIFA had dropped ticket prices to $11.15 for Friday’s two quarterfinals — between Fluminense and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in Orlando, Florida, and between Chelsea and Brazil’s Palmeiras in Philadelphia.
The dramatic drop in prices was first reported by The Athletic.
