Girls Preparatory School has created a new fund to support its faculty after it received a multimillion dollar gift from an alumna.

This summer, the all-girls private school received a gift of more than $8 million from the estate of alumna Charlotte Frances Fox, GPS said in a press release Friday. The majority of those funds were used to create The Fox Fund for Exceptional Teaching, a permanent reserve for faculty salaries.

“This fund will provide ongoing support to one of our highest priorities: investing in our faculty — those who develop trusted relationships, nurture our girls’ potential and prepare them to lead lives of integrity and purpose,” Head of School Megan Cover said in a statement.

GPS had previously established a multiyear plan to increase faculty pay, and the gift will allow the school to reinforce that commitment, according to the press release.

The estate’s gift is the second-largest individual gift in the school’s 120-year history.

Fox, who graduated from the school in 1960, died April 17 at age 82. She was named an Outstanding Young Woman of America in 1972 and served as vice president of securities trading for the investment firms Alpha Research and Montag & Caldwell, the release said.

Girls Preparatory School, which serves around 500 students from sixth through 12th grade, was founded in 1906. Tuition for the 2025-26 school year starts at $33,670 for middle school students.
