The promise of a warm summer day or a nice autumn evening calls for packing your picnic basket and heading outside. The Scenic City offers so many points of beauty beckoning for a checkered tablecloth, a refreshing jug of lemonade, fun snacks and beautiful foods to complement the backdrop that Mother Nature delivers.
Chattanoogan Ginny Minniger often picnics at Chester Frost Park, and though she loves dining alfresco, it’s the “easy access to water and the park’s gorgeous natural surroundings that are free of charge” that make picnicking at parks on the lake so inviting to her.
Minniger keeps her picnic basket at the ready, filled with a tablecloth and disposable plates, etc.
The menu is nothing special, she says. “More often than not, it’s a takeout family meal like barbecue, pizza or grinders,” she says.
For Minniger, it’s all about the setting and casual time with friends made possible because of the beauty of our surroundings. “It’s one of the first things we noticed when we moved to Hamilton County 35 years ago,” she says.
