FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — After a performance he described Wednesday as “a comedy of errors” by the Atlanta Falcons, offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is moving from the coaches’ box to the field for Sunday’s home game against the Washington Commanders.

Robinson acknowledged the youth of quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the second-year pro who struggled in last weekend’s 30-0 road loss to the Carolina Panthers, was a contributing factor in his move to the sideline.

“I thought this was just a good time to kind of reset,” Robinson said.

Penix was 18-of-36 passing for 172 yards with two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, in the loss that dropped the Falcons to 1-2 overall this season. Atlanta is also 0-2 against NFC South Division opponents as a 23-20 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — the division’s four-time reigning champions — and the setback at Carolina sandwiched a 20-6 road win against the NFC North’s Minnesota Vikings.

The Falcons were shut out for the first time since a 25-0 loss to the New England Patriots on Nov. 18, 2021.
