Volkswagen workers in Chattanooga will hold a strike authorization vote Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a post on social media by the United Auto Workers union.
The UAW and the German automaker have been in a stalemate over the past month as workers weigh what the company has called its best and final offer on a contract.
VW’s proposal would raise wages 20% through 2029, add a cost-of-living allowance, reduce health care costs and introduce profit sharing. Employees would also get a $4,000 ratification bonus — plus an additional $1,500 if they approve the deal by Oct. 31 — and two new floating holidays.
The union, meanwhile, has submitted a counteroffer that it said would address four key shortcomings: job security, affordable health care, wages that keep up with the cost of living, and respect and dignity on the job.
