NASHVILLE — In his fifth year as Vanderbilt’s head football coach, Clark Lea has already led his alma mater to its most regular-season victories since 1915 and has a program that began playing in 1890 one triumph away from its first 10-win season.
The Commodores are obviously eager to see what else their former fullback can do at the helm.
Athletic director Candice Storey Lee announced Friday that Vanderbilt has agreed to a contract extension with Lea, the 2024 Southeastern Conference football coach of the year. The private university in Nashville did not announce the length of the extension or financial details, but multiple media outlets — including the New York Times, which cited a confidential source — reported the extension as being for six seasons through 2031.
“Clark Lea embodies what is possible at Vanderbilt, and I am proud to continue this journey with him leading our football program,” Lee said in a news release.
Lea has 16 wins across the 2024-25 seasons for the program’s best two-year stretch in nearly a century.
