The Dalton Public Works Department is working to pave parts of the 3.5 mile trail at Haig Mill Lake Park. The paved path will improve accessibility for cyclists and walkers. The city plans to keep parts of the trail unpaved for hikers and trail runners to enjoy.

The park includes a picnic pavilion, playground, fishing pier and a dock for paddle boats and canoes. It will remain open while the work is underway, according to a press release, with some sections closing during construction. Most of the work will take place during the winter.

“We were trying to develop a win-win for the folks that wanted to see the paved surface, but there were also some folks that really enjoyed the natural surface,” City Administrator Andrew Parker said in the press release.
