DECATUR, Tenn. — Players, not plays.

That was the request of Meigs County head coach Nathan Simbeck to his play callers early in the Tigers’ matchup against visiting Sequatchie County in the second round of the TSSAA Class 3A playoffs Friday night.

His mentality was to keep the ball in the hands of quarterback Kaiden Brewster and running back Tuff Ricker as much as possible.

It proved to be a good plan, as the two had a hand in every offensive yard gained by the fourth-ranked Tigers in their 49-19 win over the 10th-ranked Indians. Brewster finished with 265 rushing yards on 19 carries, including a pair of touchdowns, while Ricker rushed for 65 yards and four touchdowns and threw a 71-yard pass to Bowen Combs for the other score.
