The jail, with a capacity for 402 men and 108 women, first attained accreditation from the institute in 2024, according to a statement issued by the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office. The accreditation also follows two consecutive years of state certification of the jail after officials answered overcrowding issues identified in 2023 and earlier inspections.
The corrections institute, a state entity that reports to the Tennessee Department of Correction, has established minimum standards for adult local jails, and the agency’s Board of Control establishes the standards to inspect and certify local correctional facilities but has no enforcement authority.
The institute’s Board of Control voted to approve the 2025 accreditation Dec. 3, the statement said.
